12 Ways to Decorate for a Chic Christmas

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! It’s time to break out the Christmas tree, bake up some delicious cookies, and dance around the kitchen to Christmas carols! The best way to enjoy the holiday season is to have your home beautifully decorated for Christmas so that you can’t ever forget to count down the days to the 25th! At least that’s my theory… Here are my favorite ways to decorate your home for a super chic holiday! Happy decorating!

1. Start with a Color Scheme

Pick a color scheme and stick with it throughout your house. Reds and greens are great for a traditional chic look, but you don’t have to do red and green. Try colors that are a little less traditional for a fun spin on your holiday decorating! Go with light pinks and dark greens for a look similar to traditional or go crazy try bright blue and purple!

2.Emphasize Whites and Neutral Tones

To create a chic christmas atmosphere, make shades of white and neutrals your base for decorating. This will bring a freshness to the decor and you won’t be overwhelmed with bright colors.

3. Bring in Nature

Add some natural elements to your decor! Take a walk outside and grab some pine branches, pine cones, and tree bark. Little pieces of natural will bring a warm, homemade feeling to your holiday.

4. Play with Textures

One of my favorite things to play with in a space, no matter the time of year, is textures. Mix and match your textures to add interest into the space! Try combining elements of mercury glass, birch bark, and linens or flannel into one space.

5. Vintage and Antique Pieces

Head to your local thrift store to find some great vintage and antique finds. You’d be surprised at the amazing pieces you can find for great prices at thrift stores. These inexpensive pieces have been well loved for years and that will definitely translate into your space this holiday season. By including some of these thrifted pieces to your holiday decor, you’ll definitely add a lot of love to your home!

6. Add Ornaments in Unexpected Places

Try adding ornaments to places that you wouldn’t normally think to do so. Hang them from a chandelier to create a conversation piece, link them together to make a fun garland, or fill a large bowl with them for a festive center piece.

7. Twinkle Lights!

Christmas is time to shine! Don’t be afraid to add string lights everywhere! Too keep a chic look, opt for white lights and match the wire to the surface that the lights will sit on. Intertwine them in your garland, ball up a string of battery powered lights into a glass jar, or simply wrap them around a stick and lean it against the wall (or do all of them!). You can never have too many lights at Christmas time!

8. Modest Stockings

Clothe your mantle with modest stockings this year. Though this is an understated look, it will definitely not go unnoticed! Try a monochromatic or neutral colors to create this classy look. This knit neutral stocking will look so adorable on your mantle!

9. Minimalist Gift Wrapping

Wrap your gifts in simple wrapping paper. Brown or white paper wrapping paired with bakers twine tied in a bow create a sleek look that is beautifully minimalist. To add a little flare to your gifts, tuck a small flower or sprig of pine into the twine bow.

10. Calligraphy

Elements of calligraphy brings such a beautiful personal touch to any space. Incorporate  calligraphy into your decor in your seating cards on the table, gift labels, and wall decor. This will bring a whimsical yet classy vibe to your holiday.

11. Fragrances

The first thing I notice when I walk into a room is how it smells. The scent of a room really sets the tone for your feeling in that space. To enhance your Christmasy vibes sprinkle fragrant elements throughout the space. Incorporate real scented accents into the room to create authenticity. Try out a cute cup of cinnamon sticks, a real pine garland, or a cranberry wreath for a look that not only will you see, but also smell!

12. Decorate the Whole House

A great way to show that you have really put some thought into your decor is by decorating the whole house, not just the living room or entertaining space. Not only will this keep you in a Christmasy mood all of December, but your guests will surely appreciate it when you have them over. It adds an extra element of spirit to your home!

Hope you enjoyed these tips and tricks and you try them out this holiday season! May your days be Merry and Bright (and chic)! Merry Christmas Everyone!
